The Trusted Leader in NextGen Bar Preparation

As the NextGen Bar Exam begins to roll out state by state, Aspen Publishing remains dedicated and steadfast in developing the most up-to-date materials and resources for every student's needs.

What is the NextGen Bar Exam?

Beginning July 2026 in select U.S. jurisdictions, the NextGen Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) will be administered as a successor  to the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), and Multistate Performance Test (MPT). The NextGen UBE is designed to better align with the knowledge and skills needed for modern legal practice. The exam emphasizes core lawyering competencies such as legal analysis, writing, issue spotting, and practical problem-solving built around a clearly defined set of fundamental legal concepts.

Balancing both litigation and transactional practice, the NextGen UBE reflects key developments in legal education, including clinical experiences, legal writing instruction, and alternative dispute resolution. For bar candidates preparing to enter a rapidly evolving profession, this new exam format offers a more integrated, practice-oriented, and skills-based approach to demonstrating readiness for licensure.
